- QUALITY CONSTRUCTION: The Catlin
Gopher Machine is designed to operate for a long time with a
minimum of maintenance. THE COULTER BLADE AND THE COULTER
SWIVEL JOINT SHOULD BE GREASED EVERY DAY OF OPERATION.
The chain should be lubricated with a dry lubricant as
conditions require. All other bearings are prelubricated sealed
bearings. The hardened steel run forming point, on the foot, can
be replaced by removing the roll pin, removing the worn point,
replacing it with a new point and reinstalling the roll pin.
- OPERATION: After mounting the
machine on your tractor 3 point hitch, adjust the top link to
level the machine. After putting the seed in the hopper, you
will be ready to get started. Take care never
to back up while the machine is in the ground; if this happens
check the seed tube to make sure it is open. If at any time the
seed dispenser becomes clogged, it can be cleaned by just
removing the foreign material. If for any reason the hopper
shaft is removed, special care should be exercised to realign
the hopper bearings when reassembled.
- The best time to poison is 2 to 3 days after a rain when the
soil is moist. This will make the run formed by the machine more
stable and keep it from caving in for several days. Never try to
poison when the ground is muddy because there is generally
little activity at this time and also the seed tube could become
clogged with mud.
CAUTION: Under no
circumstances should this machine be operated at a speed greater
than 5 (five) miles per hour. Do not make sharp turns with the
machine in the ground.
MARTIN'S
Gopher Bait is commonly used with the Catlin
Gopher Machine.
This is a Strychnine treated grain bait for pocket gopher
control. For subsoil applications only.
